First Baptist Church of Freeport
CONNECTING people to Christ and His church by helping to GROW them as disciples and equip them to SERVE through ministry,
SHARE through missions, and to honor and glorify God through WORSHIP.
Visiting a church for the first time can be a little intimidating. People tend to worry about what to wear and what to say, whether or not they’ll have to handle a snake. . .and then there’s the whole ohmagosh-what-if-they-make-me-stand-up-and-introduce-myself fear.
Here’s the deal: You can totally relax at FBC-Freeport. We want to meet you wherever you are–spiritually, emotionally, relationally and just about any other “-ly” you can possibly imagine. We don’t pressure or judge; we invite and encourage. For real. https://188.8.131.52/
About Our People
We call ’em our “church family.” We’re not high-brow, pinched face, hoity-toity types. We’re just regular people like you. Non of us is perfect. We mess up–sometimes big–regardless of our best intentions. We don’t have all the answers . . . and we’re way open to questions. And not to brag, but we’ve been told we’re pretty nice, too. Ya know, for what it’s worth. idn live
About the Dress Code
Yeah, we really don’t care what you wear. Wear jeans. Wear shorts. Wear jean shorts. You can even wear a tie if you feel like that’s really necessary. Just pretty please leave the speedo at home. https://184.108.40.206/brand/slot88
FBC-Freeport is a growing church and it can be a bit tricky to get to know people–especially if you’re new around here. For that reason, we’re always on the look-out for ways to not only connect people with God, but also connect people with people. We want to grow larger and smaller at the same time. Deep stuff. slot88
“CONNECT” options are all of those things that help our big church feel not-quite-so-big (excluding any type of enormous shrink ray, of course . . . which would be an oxymoron anyway.) They’re opportunities to help people–infants through adults–feel like they’re really part of the church, not just attendees. slot gacor
About Our Messages
We prefer not to call ’em sermons because that feels too much like a lecture . . . and we figure you get enough of those from your spouse, your dentist, that kid down the street who was just made safety monitor at his school. Messages are different: They’re shared with you, not preached at you. They’re something you can take in and chew on without feeling defensive or ashamed. And, as if that weren’t enough, they also have meaning and relevance to your everyday life. Pretty sweet, huh? oxplay
About Our Services
Typically, our services last a little over an hour, and they’re wrapped up and presented in a nice little package … kinda like a worship sandwich, if you will. We have praise and worship as our bread, a meaningful message to fill the middle, and toppings like music, movie clips, and drama that really enhance the flavor. Who’s hungry?
Only one true and living God exists. He is the Creator of the universe, eternally existing in three Persons—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each equally deserving of humanity’s worship and obedience. He is infinite and perfect in all His attributes.
THE BIBLE IS GOD’S WORD
The Bible is God’s written revelation to people, divinely given through human authors who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is entirely true. The Bible is totally sufficient and completely authoritative for matters of life and faith. The goal of God’s Word is the restoration of humanity into His image.
PEOPLE ARE GOD’S TREASURE
God created people in His image for His glory. They are the crowning work of His creation. Yet every person has willfully disobeyed God—an act known as sin—thus inheriting both physical and spiritual death and the need for salvation. All human beings are born with a sin nature and into an environment inclined toward sin. Only by the grace of God through Jesus Christ can they experience salvation.
JESUS IS GOD AND SAVIOR
Jesus is both fully God and fully human. He is Christ, the Son of God. Born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life and performed many miracles. He died on the cross to provide people forgiveness of sin and eternal salvation. Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return in power and glory.
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD AND EMPOWERER
The Holy Spirit is supernatural and sovereign, baptizing all believers into the Body of Christ. He lives within all Christians beginning at the moment of salvation and then empowers them for bold witness and effective service as they yield to Him. The Holy Spirit convicts individuals of sin, uses God’s Word to mature believers into Christ likeness, and secures them until Christ returns.
SALVATION IS BY FAITH ALONE
All human beings are born with a sin nature, separated from God, and in need of a Savior. That salvation comes only through a faith relationship with Jesus Christ, the Savior, as a person repents of sin and receives Christ’s forgiveness and eternal life. Salvation is instantaneous and accomplished solely by the power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. This salvation is wholly of God by grace on the basis of the shed blood of Jesus Christ and not on the basis of human works. All the redeemed are secure in Christ forever.
THE CHURCH IS GOD’S PLAN
The Holy Spirit immediately places all people who put their faith in Jesus Christ into one united spiritual body, the Church, of which Christ is the head. The primary expression of the Church on earth is in autonomous local congregations of baptized believers. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by taking the gospel to the entire world and by building its members in Christ likeness through the instruction of God’s Word, fellowship, service, worship, and prayer.
THE FUTURE IS IN GOD’S HANDS
God is actively involved in our lives and our future. Through His prophets, God announced His plans for the future redemption of His people through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son. With the call of the disciples, God prepared the way for the future of His Church. In scripture, God promised that Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth to resurrect and judge the saved and unsaved. As the all-knowing and all-powerful Creator and Judge, God can and should be trusted today, and with our future.
Meet Pastor Abel
Abel Garcia was ordained to the ministry in May 1994 and has served various roles in several churches in Alabama and Tennessee before accepting the call to pastor FBC-Freeport in July of 2004. Under his leadership, FBC has turned from being a church on the brink of closing its doors to a vital part of the port city community.
Abel grew up in Freeport, Texas and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1987. He attended Brazosport College in Clute, Texas and the University of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pastoral Ministry with emphasis on youth ministry and minors in theater and sociology.
He and his wife, Lynn, live in Freeport. They have four children: Francesca, Josiah, Dominique & Gideon. He loves to workout, coach soccer and support the Brazosport Exporters. Go Ships!
First Baptist Church is always on the look out for ways to not only connect people with God, but also connect people with people. We want to grow larger and smaller at the same time. Deep stuff, right?
“Connect” options are all of those things that help our big church feel not-quite-so-big. They’re opportunities to help people–infants through adults–fell like they’re really part of the church, not just attendees.
What does it mean to be Christian?
Most people live their entire lives without ever knowing “WHY?”
They exist year after year with no idea of why they live or God’s purpose for their lives. They ask the most basic question, “What is the meaning of life? ” Most are looking for happiness in possessions, pleasures, prestige or power.
But real happiness comes from understanding my purpose in life.
Why am I here?
- God made me to love me!
God says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love!” Jeremiah 31:3 “Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be His through our union with Christ…because of His love. God had already decided that through Jesus Christ He would make us His children — this was God’s pleasure and purpose.” Ephesians 1:4-5 (GN)
- We were created to enjoy a personal relationship with God and to manage all of the rest of God’s creation! This makes us special!
“So God created human beings, making them in His image. He blessed them, and said,…live all over the earth and bring it under control. I am putting you in charge.” Genesis 1:27-28 (LB) “God richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” 1 Timothy 6:17 Jesus said, “I have come in order that you might have life — life in all its fullness!” John 10:10
- When we know and love God, and live in harmony with His purpose for our lives, it produces tremendous benefits in our lives:
Clear Conscience (Romans 8:1) Life & Peace (Romans 8:6) Help with Weakness (Romans 8:26)
Purpose (Romans 8:28) Confidence (Romans 8:31) Security (Romans 8:39)
Power & Strength (Philippians 4:13) Fulfillment (Philippians 4:19) Freedom (John 8:32,36)
What’s The Problem?
Man has a natural desire to be the boss and to ignore God’s principles for living.
"Look out for #1. Do your own thing." "If it feels good, do it - regardless of what God says about it." "It's my life and I'll do what I please!"
The BIble calls this attitude sin.
“All of us, like sheep, have gone astray, and each of us has turned to his own way.” Isaiah 53:6
"If we say that we never sin, we are only fooling ourselves, and refuse to accept the truth." 1 John 1:8
Sin breaks our close relationship with God. It causes us to fear God and try to live our lives outside of His will.
“The trouble is that your sins have cut you off from God.” Isaiah 59:2 (LB)
"All have sinned and fall short of God's glorious ideal." Romans 3:23
When our relationship to God is not right, it causes PROBLEMS in every area of our lives — marriage, career, relationships, finances, etc.
WHEN PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS, THEY OFTEN TRY MANY DIFFERENT WAYS OF COPING BEFORE THEY TURN TO GOD.
“There are ways that SEEM right to man, but they only end in death.” Proverbs 16:25
Even when we know our deepest need is God, we often try wrong ways of getting to know Him:
“My mother was a Christian so….”
“It doesn’t matter what you believe. Just be sincere.”
“I’ll give up all my bad habits.”
“I’ll work real hard and earn it.”
“I’ll be religious and go to church.”
What’s the Solution?
Jesus Christ said, “I AM THE WAY, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except THROUGH ME!” John 14:6
God himself came to earth as a human being to bring us back to Himself. If any other way would have worked, Jesus Christ would not have had to come. The Way is a Person!
JESUS HAS ALREADY TAKEN CARE OF YOUR SIN PROBLEM!
“The wages of sin is death, BUT the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
God did this for us because He loves us and wants us to know Him.
"God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were still separated from God by sin, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 "God is on one side and all people are on the other side, and Christ Jesus is between them to bring them together, by giving His life for all mankind." 1 Timothy 2:5
God has already done His part to restore our relationship to Him. He took the initative. Now He waits for each of us to individually accept what He has done for us.
What’s does God want me to do?
- ADMIT THAT GOD HAS NOT BEEN FIRST IN YOUR LIFE AND ASK HIM TO FORGIVE YOUR SINS.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from every wrong.” 1 John 1:9
- BELIEVE THAT JESUS DIED TO PAY YOUR SINS AND THAT HE ROSE AGAIN, AND IS ALIVE TODAY.
“If we confess that Jesus is your Lord, and you believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name (Jesus) by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
- ACCEPT GOD’S FREE GIFT OF SALVATION. DON’T TRY TO EARN IT.
“For by grace you are saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9
Our relationship to God is not restored by anything we do, but on the basis of what Jesus already did for us!
- INVITE JESUS CHRIST TO COME INTO YOUR LIFE AND BE THE DIRECTOR (“LORD”) OF YOUR LIFE.
“To all who receive Him, He gives the right to become children of God. All we need to do is to trust Him to save us. All those who believe this are reborn! — not a physical rebirth…but from the will of God!” John 1:12-13 “Jesus says, ‘Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…'” Revelation 3:30
YOU CAN TAKE THESE STEPS BY PRAYING A SIMPLE PRAYER OF COMMITMENT TO GOD:
“Dear Jesus, thank You for making me and loving me, even when I’ve ignored You and gone my own way. I realize I need You in my life and I’m sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. Than You for dying on the cross for me. Please help me to understand it more. As much as I know how, I want to follow You from now on. Please come into my life and make me a new person inside. I accept Your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow now as a Christian.”
Baptism is a personal statement of faith that testifies of a believer’s new life in Christ.
Our baptism services are absolutely not to be missed! We get really super excited when someone makes a public declaration that they’re going to follow hard after God, and we figure that kind of decision is worth throwing a party about. So, we do!
Since Baptisms are a BIG deal around here, we want to make sure you are prepared. If you would like to be baptized, please let Pastor Abel or the church office know and an orientation time will be set up for you.
For kiddos (Kindergarten – 6th grade) and their parents, it’s a time to come and make sure that their children are truly ready to make a public profession of faith.
For students and adults, it’s a time to go over all the little details (like “Don’t forget to bring dry clothes”) and answer any questions you may have.
We encourage you to invite all your relatives and friends to attend your baptism.
Thinking about membership at First Baptist Church of Freeport? That’s great! Membership at FBC is a pretty big deal. That’s not because we think members are better than anyone else; it’s because joining a church is a commitment. Commitment is what makes members different from attenders just like the difference between living together and getting married. If you’re just living together there’s no commitment; you can walk out at any moment. Marriage means you’re committed for the duration.
At FBC we never ask our members to do more than the Bible clearly teaches. We only expect our members to do what the Bible expects every Christian to do. If you choose to join FBC-Freeport this is what you’re committing to:
I will protect the unity of my church by acting in love toward the other members, refusing to gossip, by following the leaders.
I will share the responsibility of my church by praying for its growth, by inviting the unchurched to attend, by warmly welcoming those who visit.
I will support the testimony of my church by attending faithfully, by living a godly life, by giving regualry.
I will seve the ministry of my church by discovering my gifts and talents, by being equipped to serve my pastor and ministry leaders, by developing a servant’s heart.
Who can be a member?
Membership at FBC-Freeport is open to anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and then has been baptized by immersion by a body of believers of like faith and practice.
If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and would like to do so, we will be glad to share with you how you can follow through with this spiritual decision.
If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins, but have not followed that with baptism by immersion and would like to do so, we will be glad to share with you how you can follow through with this spiritual decision.
We ask each person considering membership with FBC to participate in our fbc101 : MEMBERSHIP Class to help you get better acquainted with who we are, with our beliefs, and ministries. fbc101 is held periodically on Sunday mornings. Please check current bulletins or newsletter for upcoming dates.
If you choose to join the First Baptist church of Freeport family, please come forward during the “Welcome Time” or “Time of Response” and let Pastor Abel or another ministry leader know of your intentions, or you may contact Pastor Abel at the church office, 979.233.5347.
Once you have joined, we offer many different ministries to help you begin to connect with your new church family, deepen your relationship with God, and change your life!
- Small Groups
Getting connected at First Baptist Church means participating in a Sunday School small group. They provide a setting to build dynamic relationships and apply biblical principles to daily life. Your small group will be the people who will encourage, support, and care for you. At FBC-Freeport, our goal is to be a church of small groups rather than a church with small groups. In other words, it’s through small groups that the ministry of our church is lived out.
The following is a list of several small groups who are ready to connect with you and your family.
